12. There is Fishing that Can Enjoy Without Catching Fish

Would You Like to See a Picture of the Bass I Caught?

Some of you may have already noticed, but this blog does not include any pictures of the bass I caught. It's not because this method doesn't catch fish. Rather, if there are largemouth bass in the shallow water when sight fishing in clear water, I think it's a pretty strong method.

There are two reasons I don't post pictures of bass on this blog. The first reason is that I have written a specific method on this blog that is reproducible, and if you follow it, you will catch bass. So I do not have to post a picture of the bass I caught, nor do I have to post a picture of me holding up a bass.

The second reason is related to the title of this article, but when I use this method, I often bend the hook inward to prevent the lure from getting caught in the bass' mouth. That's why I don't catch many fish.

Don't Have to Hook Up to Fish to Enjoy this Fishing Method

Of course, I understand that the important thing in fishing is to catch fish, and when I use other methods to fish, I generally don't bend the hook. However, unlike other fishing methods, this method can also be enjoyed using lures with intentionally bent hooks to make them harder to catch.

Enjoy the Fish's Reactions

I think the most fun part of sight fishing in clear water is manipulating the lure while watching the fish's reactions. Normal lure fishing involves manipulating a lure underwater to stimulate the fish's predatory instincts, but this method of fishing involves manipulating the lure in the air to stimulate the fish's predatory instincts.
Therefore, can see fish reactions that are different from normal lure fishing.

Let's Take a Look at Some Examples of Bass Reactions Can See when Using this Method
For example, have a very active 5-pound bass just below the surface.

1. Not Letting the Bass Bite the Lure

Use this method to stimulate the bass' predatory instincts and then pick up the lure without letting it land on the water. Then, the lure that was about to fall to the surface of the water suddenly disappears, making it look confused.
When throwing it again to him, who is irritated, get the same reaction again.
Once the bass notices your presence, will stop responding, but until then will continue to play with you.

2. Pull the Lure Out of the Bass' Mouth

Next is the turn of a lure with a bent needle.

This time, unlike 1. above, the lure will be fed to the bass after landing on the water.
Without any hesitation, pull the lure out of the mouth of the bass that has eaten it. Then, the bass chases the lure that slipped out and eat it again.
If the fish feels strange, will stop chasing the lure, but until then will play with you.

3. Make the Fish Jump

This is the reaction of bass that can be seen when favorable conditions are met.
Slow down the lure as much as possible and let it pass over the bass' head with a low trajectory. (Low trajectory with long dwell time)
When the bass sees the lure passing overhead, they chase it furiously.
The bass then jumps and tries to catch the lure before it hits the water.

If the direction in which the lure flies is the same as the direction of the bass, it will be easier for the bass to chase the flying lure.

I believe that the low trajectory rapid deceleration method that is the subject of this blog should be used with baitcasting tackle, but there are physical limits to throwing a lure with a low trajectory that has a long dwell time with a baitcaster.
So if you just want to have fun with the fish jumping, I think it makes more sense to send the lure like a pendulum with a tenkara rod.

These bass reactions can be seen just a few meters away, but if you simply catch these fish using, for example, a plastic worm that resembles an earthworm, you won't be able to experience this.

Furthermore, these days, increased fishing pressure has made it harder to catch bass. The “fishing that can be enjoyed without catching fish” written here is the premise is not to catch fish. Therefore, you can enjoy fishing without putting too much pressure on the fish. I call this type of fishing that goes beyond the concept of catch and release "fishing without catching."
Wouldn't it be great to have something like this as a new form of sport fishing?
